We’re passionate about the coast. That’s why we love discovering great places around the UK to see beautiful British sunsets. From the most prestigious marinas and yacht clubs, to hidden gems and forgotten coves, if you can capture the sunset there, we’re on a hunt to find it.
The first in our series comes from a small, over-looked seaside town; but one that’s packed full of character and charm. With olde worlde arcades, attractions and a 19th-century pier, Paignton in the south of Devon offers a more traditional seaside escape for any fun-loving family to drop anchor and explore.
Deep red sands stretch across the coast, with an ancient fishing harbour nestled along the waterfront that will fill you with nostalgia. The sea is often calm and still, so you can have all the fun in the world, darting from yacht to shore.
Take advantage of one of the guest moorings in the dock while you explore Paignton on foot, and prepare to be stunned by miles of bright, cheerful beach huts lined along the promenade. Just a few feet away from the picturesque beaches, you’ll discover a host of parks and gardens that are filled with palms and sub-tropical plants – a great pit stop for an afternoon picnic.
Hop back on your tender to explore the English Riviera, one of Devon’s largest bays. Together, Paignton, Torquay and Brixton boast miles of golden sands, and the hills either side act as a suntrap, allowing the bay to luxuriate in its own warm microclimate. Perfect to catch a tan while you bask in the sun’s glowing rays.
The waters of the English Riviera are filled with extraordinary wildlife, including colourful corals and seahorses. See the fascinating flora for your own eyes by diving in from your tender; pop on your mask and enjoy an hour of snorkeling before the evening draws in.
As the sun sets over the ocean, you can look out to this beautiful vista, all the while planning your next coastal adventure.
